Videos stall for a second or two on cnn.com

When watching most videos on cnn.com the video will stall periodically for a second or two and then resume.  I do not have this problem on any other sites.  The only solution appears to be disabling hardware accleration.  Disabling HWA appears to be global.  It's a shame that for cnn.com to play correctly I have to disable HWA for all sites.

I am using the latest beta of Flash on Firefox, 13.0.0.162.  It doesn't make a difference which version of Flash I use they all stall on cnn.  Same thing with Firefox.

Increasing storage space for cnn.com doesn't work either.

If there isn't a solution to this problem other than disabling HWA what am I losing by doing this?

Sounds like you've got malware alright.

As far as image burning, I ONLY use Roxio Media Creator, or PowerISO to burn images to disk. Nero will do it, but I can't run it with Roxio (conflicts).

You need to do thorough virus scan and cleanup.

Based on the statements you made:
1. it doesn't happen anywhere else

2. It happens with ALL browsers

I'd say it's in the video code at CNN.

Without seeing the code, it's just a guess.

If it is code, you'll get a better answer in the Dreamweaver forum, though.

putlocker and sockshare are filesharing sites. I was unaware that they had streaming video.

Where are the Adobe people?  why aren't they monitoring this and help us fix our problems?

This is a user-to-user forum. It isn't support.

Sometimes it takes a while to get anwsers.

In the global settings (System Preferences)

Under the Storage tab, click "Delete All..."

Then set it to "Allow".

Try another browser.   Here's why I say that.

"User-Agent Strings"

That doesn't mean a lot, I'm sure, but it's the root of your problems, and Flash Player has nothing to do with it.

Microsoft "rewrote" the User-Agent Strings for the abomination they call their latest and greatest browser. User-Agent Strings are what websites use to identify the browser you're using and provide the proper content for it's browser engine, like ActiveX stuff, and Flash or HTML5 video. Thanks to the geniuses in Redmond, WA, the User-Agent Strings for IE11 (which has a Trident engine), ID it as either "Gecko" (Firefox) or "Webkit" (Chrome). Problem is: when the site the directs to the content for one of these two engines, the Trident engine in IE can't intepret it and the site then sees IE as an "unidentified" browser.

The problem with an unidentified browser is that the plug-ins in that browser aren't recognized either, so even though you're up to date, it says you need the latest Flash Player when you use IE11. YouTube... has converted to HTML5 video so if it doesn't detect Flash Player, it can display HTML5 (MP4) video which requires no plug-in to play. Facebook can't do that, because HTML5 doesn't apply to games... only video.

Microsoft has no plans to "fix" the mess thay've created because they think it's a great idea to block you out of the websites you visit.

They recommend using "Compatibility View" and pretending that you're using an older verison of IE... Problem with that is that it's seen limited success, and you have to enable it for EVERY page that has problems... individually.

I'm not big on "pretending" so I recommend actually using another browser.

Firefox (from Mozilla)

Opera (from Opera)

Safari (from Apple)

Chrome (from Google)

ANY of those will work where IE11 won't, with the Flash Player Plug-in (For all other browsers), and Chrome doesn't even need that because it has its own Flash Player plugin built in.

There are some other threads here where it looks like Adobe replied.

I just did what you suggested so we shall see.

Thanks

So far so good.

How are you being told that?  Where does the download link lead you: to an adobe.com website?

It's not an Adobe site. After some research, I believe it;'s a phishing site.

When trying to view videos on the skynews website http://news.sky.com I get the error Warning:Plug failed. Unfortunately a plugin failed to load. The player might not work as expected.

Current flash version

12.0.0.77

Internet Explorer version 11 64 Bit browser

Windows 7 Enterprise 64 Bit

All plugins are enabled. When I roll back to version 11 of Flash all is ok. Any ideas?

Re: Flash Player ignores my sound settings

I had the same problem with my X-Fi and its software upmix (useless in the case of flash player). Apparently, Adobe thinks that upmixing flash sound to match the system speaker configuration is the right way to go (ignoring the horrible results in the audio quality, like in the bass balancement and in the center speaker being too loud), and they are not going to change this behaviour soon.

However, i found a workaround in this old post ( http://forums.adobe.com/message/5352195 ): you need to add the line

UseWAVPlayer=1

to MMS.CFG , located in C:\Windows\SysWOW64\Macromed\Flash in 64bit windows.

Good news! Suddenly, everything works! I was about to reset firefox completely, but then I thought "Hey, let's give it one last try..."

Yey!

WOW!

Thank you so much LordOfChaos. This definitely solves the problem!

So it seems to be not a problem of Flash, but of the X-Fi driver's incompatibility with Windows CoreAudio. Interesting fact.

Many greetings!

Websites might occasionally want to store information, such as your high score from a game that runs in  Flash Player or what products you have purchased, to your computer. In the Global Storage Settings panel, you can control how much disk space websites can use to store information, or you can prohibit websites from storing any information at all. (If you prohibit websites from storing information, the website might or might not function as intended.)

Use this panel to specify the default storage settings for websites that you haven't yet visited. (To change settings for websites you have already visited, use the Website Storage Settings panel.) The following list explains the storage options:

  • If you don't want to let applications from any website save information on your computer, and you don't want to be asked again, select Never Ask Again. This action doesn't delete any information that is already stored. (To delete existing information, use the Delete options in the Website Storage Settings panel.)
  • If you want to decide on a case-by-case basis whether applications from a website can save information on your computer, move the slider to the far left (None). Each time an application wants to save information on your computer, you will be asked for more disk space.
  • If you want to let applications from any website save as much information on your computer as they need to, move the slider to the far right (Unlimited).
  • If you want to let applications from any website save information on your computer, but want to limit the amount of disk space they can use, move the slider to select 10 KB, 100 KB, 1 MB, or 10 MB. If an application needs more space than you have allotted, you will be asked for more disk space while the application is running.
  • (Flash Player 8 and later) If you do not want to let third-party content store information on your computer, deselect Allow Third-Party Content To Store Data On Your Computer.

When you visit a website, the address shown in the browser address bar is usually where most of the website is located. For example, if you visit a fictional website www.[hotel].com, most of the website is located at www.[hotel].com. Sometimes, websites combine content from different sources. For example, www.[hotel].com might display a reservations form in Flash that actually comes from [reservations.hotel].com. The content from the latter website is called third-party content.

Third-party content might try to store information on your computer. In the hotel reservations example, you might be willing to let [reservations.hotel].com store information on your computer, such as data about which hotels you prefer, so that you can make a hotel reservation. However, you might not be willing to let third-party content store information on your computer in other situations. For example, a car-rental company, www.[my-car-rental].com, might have a banner ad on www.[hotel].com, to track your website usage or to record your preferences.

To prohibit all third parties from storing information on your computer, deselect Allow Third-Party Content To Store Data On Your Computer. This option is available only with Flash Player 8 and later. Adobe recommends that you upgrade to the most recent version of Flash Player available.
  • (Flash Player 9.0.115.0 and later) If you do not want to store Flash components on your computer, deselect Store Common Flash Components To Reduce Download Times.

Flash Player lets you store common or shared SWF and FLV files and other components from different websites on your computer to significantly reduce download times and allow faster viewing. For example, www.[hotel].com and [reservations.hotel].com might both use the same Adobe components on their sites.

For an overview of issues related to storage, see What are storage settings? in the discussion of the Settings Manager. (http://www.macromedia.com/support/documentation/en/flashplayer/help/se ttings_manager03.html)
